Aircon Direct was originally started by my dad John, he was obviously given the name “Aircon John” quite quickly, which he is still known by today, although he has almost nothing to do with the business anymore. Our company consists of 2 family members and 1 long term trusted employee.
I’m Mark, and in 2001 I started working with my dad, initially just watching and learning the trade. After a few months, I started to carry out repairs myself and over the past 19 years, I would like to think I have picked up a fair amount of experience in this trade!
I have a huge interest in the automotive industry on a personal and professional level. I worked as a mechanic when I left school and was very privileged to work at Brands Hatch Racing Circuit for my first job. My personal time is spent mostly with my family and young son (who seems to also have a fascination with all things wheels) and out on my mountain bike with my friends.
Derek has been in the business from before the days of air conditioning. He used to drive HGV lorries for my dad, then transitioned over to aircon as demand increased. Derek has worked in a variety of different industries, so has a wealth of knowledge and experience allowing him to easily tackle some difficult problems. Derek feels more like a family member than an employee and is trusted immensely by us.
Jenny (my mum) used to be the first point of contact on the phone but has now taken a backseat. During the summer months, you will speak to someone else as we have had a secretary working for us, which has been very helpful! Due to the nature of our business, we are unable to keep a secretary through the winter, so during this time, I am normally first point of contact.
