My aircon smells when I use it, why is this?

A common fault with vehicle a/c, the smell is normally a build of bacteria on the evaporator. This can be caused by a low refrigerant charge and/or a dirty cabin (pollen) filter.

Normally a recharge and a new cabin filter are sufficient, but we can also clean and deodorise the evaporator with a machine which creates a mist within the cabin if the problem is bad.

My aircon was working, but now the weather is really hot it doesn’t seem to be getting very cold?

Most calls begin with this sentence when a heatwave starts.

Your aircon is probably still working but again it is probably low on refrigerant. Principally, the gas carries the heat away from the interior, so not enough gas in the system means it can’t carry as much heat away as it could if it was full of refrigerant.

Normally a recharge is all that’s required.

I have been to Kwik Fit and they told me I need to see a specialist?

Fortunately, you have come to the right place - if I had a penny for the number of times I have heard that!

Garages like this and similar setups can regas your car, but they can also change your tyres and exhaust. We don’t do tyres or exhausts but do aircon.

Often, if your car has a leak, many garages won’t want to try and repair it because they either don’t want to get involved, or they don’t have the experience or relevant tools to find and identify the problem.

We charge £30 for a diagnosis which will tell you exactly what’s wrong and how much it will cost to repair.

Can you install aircon, and how much does it cost?

Yes, we can install aircon, but in most cases, it is not an economical option.

We have installed systems over the years, usually on high-end classic cars or minibuses. We do tend to limit any installations we undertake to the winter months.

Cost-wise for an aircon installation, vehicle dependent, it could cost anywhere between £1500 and £5000 - it’s not cheap!

Do I have to get my car re-gassed every year?

If you have to regas your car every year, you probably have a leak. We have many different ways of finding leaks and almost always will find them.
